Quaker State
This page deals with Quaker State brand oils
Introduction
Quaker State has a long history in engine oils, however it seems their extensive background and production capability does not result in good oils. All Quaker State oils tested performed poorly, and Quaker State Advanced Durability (QSAD) failed even the basic parts of our testing.

Advanced Durability 10W40
Recommended blend: none
SLR-3 Scoring ---
- N/A: FAIL
This oil destroyed the testing machine in less than 20 minutes. It could not handle for 20 minutes the same exact testing that every other oil has been subjected to for 120+ minutes. The wear and heat generated caused horrible scarring and even started to overheat and melt the cylinder. Do NOT use this oil in any engine!
Ultimate Durability 5W30
Recommended blend: M17
SLR Scoring ---
- N/A: 60.96
- M17: 85.76
This oil had average component wear, but higher than average temperatures and required power resulting in a lower base score. Previous SQUID INK blends had relatively minor impact on performance in comparison to other base oils, so a new formula was developed specifically for QSUD -- M17. With M17 the performance was improved a fair amount -- a 68.5% decrease in cylinder weight loss at 120 minutes, and a 48' F decrease in temperature at 30 minutes over the base oil alone.
For the price, this oil under-performed.
